Synopsis
In Bantu-Congolese culture, Matanga is a funeral ceremony held in the absence of the body. In southern Brazil, the mourning of a mother working at a recycling cooperative brings up memories that cross generations and evoke the connection between the dead and the living.

Rebeca Francoff
Rebeca Francoff is a director and screenwriter who also works as a cinematographer and editor. She holds a master's in Arts from the Universidade Federal de Pelotas (UFPel) and a degree in Film from the same institution, and studied on exchange at the Escola Superior de Design e Artes (ESAD) in Caldas da Rainha, Portugal. In 2023 she was a finalist for the Brazilian Society of Cinematographers (ABC) award in the Student Cinematography category, with the short Madrugada (2022). She directed, wrote and edited Comboio pra Lua (2020), screened at festivals including Gramado and Tiradentes, and edited Testemunho (2025), which premiered at the Lago Film Fest (Revine Lago, Italy). She directed Matanga (2026), selected for the short film competition at the Tiradentes Film Festival.
