Synopsis
Led by Beato José Lourenço, the Caldeirão da Santa Cruz do Deserto was a religious community movement that lasted from 1926 to 1937, when it was raided by the police and bombed by the Brazilian Air Force. Today the community is cited as an example of peasant autonomy by quilombola, agroecological and MST leaders. Shot on 16mm with expired stock found in an air force depot in Recife, hand-processed and finished digitally, the project seeks to fuse the chemical decomposition of the material with the natural history of destruction.

Lucas Parente is a filmmaker and writer. His films include the feature "As Muitas Mortes de Antônio Parreiras" (2025).
Adeciany Castro is a sound technician and researcher who studies popular and Indigenous knowledge in the Cariri region, with a master's in Anthropology (UFPB).
Mariana Smith is a visual artist and curator with a master's in Arts (UERJ), whose work explores landscapes and ruins.
