Windschaduw

Windschaduw marks Frans van de Staak's first collaboration with the experimental writer Gerrit Kouwenaar, a partnership they would take up again three years later on Ongedaan gedaan. Where the poems appear on screen as intertitles in that later film, here it is the poet's own voice reading two of his texts off-screen — "Tijden" and "Aire", from the 1982 collection Het blindst van de vlek. Kouwenaar's verse, poised between the everyday and the extraordinary, accompanies the film's only two characters: a man and a woman who pack, leave, arrive and return, a cycle repeating itself across modest rooms, summer houses and landscapes framed by a window. Time, here, consumes itself.
